Christmas

Once upon a time, in a galaxy far far away, when thunder cackled in the night sky, and when a lone bird sung softly in a distant wood, I celebrated Christmas with my family this past week.

I had a great time. I flew from the Salt Lake City airport on Monday the 22nd to arrive in Phoenix at around 11:45 that morning. My sister and my brother-in-law picked me up. After making a quick pit-stop at the nearest Jack-in-the-Box, we started our journey to Snowflake, Arizona.

We traveled through a heavy snow storm, of which we never reduced our speed below 80 miles per hour. We practically slid all the way home. I'm pretty sure we caused many car accidents that day, but we were in a hurry to get home.

Upon arrival, I proceeded to torture and beat up my little brothers, who bite, kick, and don't really fight back. It was quite the time. Either I am getting older, or they are getting stronger because it is harder and harder to keep them under control. And...they can hurt me now. During High School, I could always beat them pretty easily. Now, I have to work hard to do it. What is happening?

Whenever I come home, my mother always seems to go on a cooking rampage. She knows that I don't get a lot of good food in college, so she proceeds to conjure up all of my favorite dishes. This time, we had: Chicken packets, Chicken soup, homemade doughnuts and hot chocolate, sugar cake, ham, stuffing, burritos, double fudge brownies and rice crispies...I think I gained a few pounds over the break.

Then, that infamous Christmas morning arrived. I was woken up to the sound of my little brother, Alex, screaming in my room that is was time to wake up. I schlumped out of bed and into the hall where we waited to go into the living room and open presents. When it was finally time, we rushed out to open our stockings. We ate some sugar cake and then we got to open presents. The kids got a lot of things from IKEA, which they were really excited for. Posters, chairs, lamps, hooks, swinging chairs, furniture. You name it, they got it.

I got a $100 gift card. A book, "The Grand Complication", a coffee table book with images of Christ, The Dark Knight Special Edition, and some other things I can't remember.

My flight returning home was on the 26th, so I had to leave on Friday. My flight was delayed about thirty minutes. Aunt Sherri came to pick me up and it took us 2 hours to get to Provo. The roads were pretty icy on the way home.

All in all, seeing my family and spending some quality time with friends (My friends and I went to see "Seven Pounds" which is an amazing movie. I highly recommend it. And I went to the Native New Yorker (a restaurant)) was an enjoyable experience. I only hope that next year I will have a little more time to make some even more awesome memories like those I made this Christmas season.

Love you all!
